🌅 Sunset & Migration

MyNearWallet Sunset & Migration Information

As part of the NEAR ecosystem's long-term strategy, MyNearWallet ("MNW") is planned to be deprecated on 31 October 2026.

📋Overview

As part of the NEAR ecosystem's long-term strategy, MyNearWallet ("MNW") is planned to be deprecated on 31 October 2026.

To ensure a smooth transition, the sunset process will happen gradually over multiple phases, giving users sufficient time to migrate to supported NEAR ecosystem wallets.

Our goal is to provide clear communication, maintain account accessibility throughout the process, and make migration as simple as possible.

Why is MyNearWallet being sunset?

MyNearWallet was created as a continuation of the original NEAR Wallet and has served the ecosystem for several years.

As the NEAR ecosystem continues to evolve, the focus is shifting toward a smaller number of actively maintained wallets that provide broader functionality, improved user experience, and ongoing development.

The sunset process is intended to help users transition to these supported alternatives in a structured and low-risk manner.

🔒Is my account safe?

Yes.

Your account, tokens, staking positions, NFTs, and on-chain assets remain safe.

Your assets are stored on the NEAR blockchain and are not held by MyNearWallet itself.

The purpose of this transition is simply to move users to supported wallet applications while maintaining uninterrupted access to their accounts.

Do I need to do anything right now?

Not yet.

This page is intended to provide advance notice of the upcoming sunset process.

Guided migration tools, wallet recommendations, and step-by-step instructions will be introduced over the coming months.

For now, no immediate action is required.

What wallets will be supported?

Supported wallet options will be communicated as the migration process progresses.

Meteor Wallet is expected to be presented as the recommended migration path due to:

  • continuity with MNW maintenance,
  • support across mobile, browser extension, and web,
  • and a planned guided migration experience.

Users will remain free to migrate to other supported NEAR ecosystem wallets if preferred.

🗓️What is the timeline?

July 2026

Initial awareness phase begins, including wallet notices, FAQs, and migration information.

August – September 2026

Guided migration flows become available and users are encouraged to begin migrating.

October – December 2026

MyNearWallet transitions into a migration and recovery-focused experience with reduced functionality.

2027 Onward

MyNearWallet transitions into a recovery-focused state and eventually a static informational page.

What happens after October 2026?

Beginning in October 2026, certain wallet functionality may be restricted or removed as part of the sunset process.

Users will continue to have access to migration and recovery tools, but MyNearWallet will gradually move toward a recovery-focused experience rather than a fully operational wallet.

Additional details will be communicated well in advance.

🔁How will migration work?

When migration becomes available, users will be guided through a simple process that includes:

  1. Selecting a preferred wallet or platform type
  2. Importing and verifying their account
  3. Confirming balances and staking positions
  4. Optionally completing additional security recommendations

The process will be designed to minimize complexity and reduce the risk of account access issues.

⚠️Security Reminder

Never share your seed phrase, private key, recovery phrase, or account credentials with anyone.

MyNearWallet, Meteor Wallet, the NEAR Foundation, and legitimate support staff will never ask you for:

  • your seed phrase,
  • your private key,
  • your recovery phrase,
  • passwords,
  • or any sensitive wallet credentials.

Anyone requesting this information is attempting to gain access to your account.

Always verify announcements through official MyNearWallet, Meteor Wallet, or NEAR Foundation communication channels.

💬Questions & Support

Additional migration guides, FAQs, and support resources will be published as the sunset process progresses.

Please continue to monitor official communication channels for updates.
